This list of 200 top privately held companies in the New York area is based on published sources that include Crain's, Forbes, Dun's Regional Business Directory and Hoover's.
Given the confidential nature of the information for many privately held companies, it is not possible to identify and include every firm that would qualify for the list, although Crain's makes every effort to do so. For the same reason, all data should be considered estimates.
Companies based in New York City and Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties in New York and in Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union counties in New Jersey are eligible for the list.
